New Golf Course Record in Lancaster by Cumbrian Golfer - Cumbrian pro Peter Richardson smashed a course record on his way to winning a tournament in Lancaster – and now hopes his career is full of Eastern promise.

Richardson shot a seven-under-par 64 on his way to a three-shot victory in the 1836 Tour event at Lancaster Golf Club.

The 28-year-old, who is attached to Eden Golf Club, was six-under for nine holes on his record-breaking opening round, before posting a level-par 71 for a two-round total of 135. It was the second successive year he has won the event and it continued his upturn in fortunes with two big tournament wins in the last eightmonths. Richardson won last month’s ADT Masters

He returns to Malaysia and will then play in two events in Indonesia.

Last month’s win in Malaysia followed his maiden victory in the Sheikh Maktoum Dubai Open, on the fledgling MENA Tour, last October.

His latest triumph in Lancaster in a field of 50 pros, top amateurs and seniors may have been low-key but it gave the Hayton golfer the chance to keep his game sharp and confidence high.

“I got off to a really good start and then I was steady-away for the rest of the tournament,” he said.

“I’ve been playing well since October and shooting four, five and six under par so it was good to keep it going. A tournament is a tournament and it gives you a good chance to practice and prepare, plus the prize money will help pay for other events.
